BMW has long been on the forefront of merging information technology in vehicles. Nearly to the point where you need a computer science degree to fully appreciate their iDrive on-board vehicle information system. Ahead of the 2011 Geneva Auto Show debut next month, BMW has released images of their new concept called the Vidion ConnectedDrive which takes information technology integration to another level. The interior of the concept aims to allow driver and passenger to equally engage and share information. The driver can view 3d navigation and alert information on an enhanced head-up display overlaid on the road ahead, similar to an augmented reality display. The benefit here is taking navigation information typically displayed on a separate screen currently and merging that into a real world view. Located below is a customizable instrument cluster which presents information in 3d and can be optimized to present information based on relevance to the current driving conditions. The passenger has a separate display which is networked to the driver’s instrument panel. Passengers have access to the internet and can send address details directly to the navigation system. Another interesting feature is the Emotional Browser. Using a series of sensors located in the headlights,taillights and side mirrors, the car can gather information in real time during each journey. Some of this is practical data like traffic, obstacle avoidance, and weather conditions. But BMW says the system can also create a snapshot of the location, mood, and people the car encounters on each trip. Might this be the beginning of vehicles having their own distinct personality profile?

운전을 하다보면 여러가지 상황을 만나게 되고 그때마다 다른 기분이 들 것이다.
맘에 안들게 운전을 하는 운전자가 있다면 화도 나고 친절하고 안전하게 운전하는 운전자를 본다면 나도 모르게 기분이 좋아질테고...

이럴 때 기분을 표현하는 방법이라고 하면 대게 전자의 경우 창을 내리고 육두문자나 위협적인 수신호를 후자의 경우 미소나 따뜻한 수신호 등으로 고마움을 표시하는 경우가 있을텐데 그 수고로움을 덜어주는 귀여운 아이템이 있다.

Drivemocion이라는 이름의 이 장치는 다섯가지 표정을 지어주는 LED 얼굴(?)을 자동차에 장착하는 것으로 운전자의 기분을 수신호나 음성이 아닌 이모티콘이나 문자의 형태로 표시할 수 있도록 했다.

조작을 담당하는 입력기와 표정을 표현해주는 간단한 디스플레이로 구성된 이 제품은 운전석 쪽에 달린 입력기를 통해 직접 표정을 선택하면 화내고 웃고 슬퍼하거나 장난을 거는 등 나름 다양한 표정이 디스플레이를 통해 보여진다. 그것도 애니메이션을 더해 생동감있는 표정으로...



한가지 아쉬운 건 하나만 디스플레이를 하나만 장착한다면 뒷쪽이나 앞쪽 한쪽에만 기분 표시를 할 수 있다는 것인데...-_-^ 그래서인지 제작사쪽에서는 친절하게도 두개 셋트도 판매 중이다.

앞쪽은 수신호로 하고 뒤에만 이 장치를 달겠다면 그렇게 하면 될테고 이 귀여운 얼굴을 제대로 사용하려 한다면면 디스플레이를 2개 구입해서 앞 뒤에 각각 붙여야 할 것만 같다.

Drivemocion의 판매 가격은 29.99파운드(62,000원 정도)로 표정을 지어주는 제품 외에도 문자를 표시하거나 색다른 표정을 짓는 등 조금씩 다른 특징을 가지고 있는 여러 모델이 판매 중이다.

PS. 혹시 도로 위에서 저런 표정을 만나면 안전 운전에 방해되려나?
